The Football Association and the Football League would not have influence over the newly established top division — allowing the FA Premier League to independently negotiate its own sponsorship and broadcasting deals. Signed by the leading clubs of the sport on July 17, 1991, the Founder Members Agreement outlined the fundamental principles for the creation of the FA Premier League.
